When to visit Wadi Rum

Click here for a detailed forecast for the next week in Rum.

The best time to visit Wadi Rum for climbing is between mid October and mid April. Before and after these times it becomes very hot with afternoon  temeratures  rising to 40 degrees C. The 17th of October is consedered the begining of winter, and by early November there is often clouds and even thunder storms with the occasional flash flood.

If you choose to visit in the hotter months of the winter season (September and May), it is best to allow a few days for acclimatisation on shorter and shadier routes, before attempting the long ones. Carry at least two liters of water per person for the climb, and extra for the approach etc.

From December to February the days are short and the night time temperatures can be quite cool. It can be quite cold if you are climbing in the shade, even in the afternoon on a warm day. There can also be a cool  wind  in this period. There have also been snowfalls in winter on the summits, though this melts quickly and is rare.

Spring (March - mid April) overall seems to be the best time to visit. The desert is greener and flowers abound. It is the end of the  rainy season  and the days are longer with daylight from 05:00 to 19:30, and teperatures are not yet extreme. Most of the large pools in the siqs and canyons will still contain water, though all may not be safe for consumtion.
